Salina Library is committed to ensuring that our digital resources, services, and facilities are accessible to everyone. We believe that all members of our community deserve equal access to information, collections, and library programs, regardless of ability.
To fulfill this mission, we are continuously working to improve the user experience for all visitors and strive to apply the most up-to-date accessibility standards.
Accessibility Standards
We strive to ensure our website meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, an internationally recognized set of accessibility standards. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities.
These guidelines outline four main principles:
Perceivable: Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive.
Operable: User interface components and navigation must be operable.
Understandable: Information and the operation of the user interface must be understandable.
Robust: Content must be robust enough to be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies (like screen readers).
Accessibility Features on Our Site
While we are actively updating our web platforms, many parts of our website currently include features to support accessibility, such as:
Alt Text: Descriptive alternative text is provided for images and non-text content.
Keyboard Navigation: Our site can be navigated using only a keyboard for users who cannot use a mouse.
Color Contrast: We carefully select color combinations to ensure text is legible for users with visual impairments.
EqualWeb Accessibility App: When visiting salinalibrary.org, users can choose the EqualWeb icon on the right side of the browser window to choose accessibility assistance features such as a screen reader, increased contrast, text sizing and magnification.
Third-Party Content & External Platforms
While we strive to make our primary website accessible, we also utilize third-party platforms and databases (such as library catalogs, research databases, and event booking software). While we strongly advocate for accessibility with our vendors, some third-party interfaces are outside of our direct control.
